Tri-Area Community Health Center at Floyd

8,054 s.f. new medical office building, with 964 s.f. attic mechanical space.  The new center provides space for 3 medical providers and a counseling office, along with 8 exam rooms, a treatment room, x-ray room, and conference and lounge spaces.  It has three areas for potential expansion.  The building has been designed to coordinate with the “Floyd Vernacular” and includes use of timber frame components at the entrance, use of wood framing systems, a combination of fiber cement siding and special masonry units, and a metal roof. 

Site work includes special attention to the building orientation and locating offices and conference/lounge spaces on the south side of the building.  39 parking spaces are provided, along with special landscape areas.  The site is designed for a future building to the rear of the project, and a small building near the main road. 

Completion is Winter of 2010.

Sustainable design features:

  • Compact shape and overall design.

  • Special “green” masonry units incorporating sawdust.
  • Metal roof.
  • Use of many “green” products for interior finishes.
  • High efficiency heat pumps (6) for the building.
